Dr. Motilal Mahamallik assumed charge as Director (I/C) of the Institute of Development Studies, Jaipur on the afternoon of 27th February, 2026. He has been associated with the Institute of Develoment Studies, Jaipur since 1st December, 2008, contributing extensively to research and policy in the fields of urban homelessness, human development and poverty, rural livelihoods, centre–state financial relations, and marginalized communities in India.
His scholarly work has appeared in leading journals and platforms, including Economic and Political Weekly, Artha Vijnana, and The Indian Economic Journal, as well as in newspapers and online forums. Beyond academic research, Dr. Mahamallik has played a pivotal role in shaping public policy. He was instrumental in drafting the Rajasthan Homeless Upliftment and Rehabilitation Policy (2022) and served as the principal Researcher of the Rajasthan Human Development Report (2018). He has further advanced the academic discourse through his contributions to the UNDP Occasional Paper series and the Chronic Poverty Research Centre Working Paper series, while also collaborating with leading research institutes across India to establish the India Homeless Resources Network—a platform dedicated to deepening understanding and addressing the challenges of homelessness in the country.
With a career marked by rigorous scholarship and impactful policy engagement, Dr. Mahamallik continues to advance the Institute’s mission of addressing critical issues of development and social justice.
