The
apex body of the Institute is a Governing Board which consists
of 21 members including a Chairman, Vice-Chairman and Member-Secretary.
While the Chairman and Vice-Chairman are elected by the Board
amongst its members, the Director of the Institute is designated
as ex-officio Member-Secretary of the Board. The members of
the Board include two representatives of the Indian Council
of Social Science Research; three senior administrators nominated
by the Government of Rajasthan; two Vice Chancellors; eminent
academics, social scientists; eminent persons specialising
in various fields related to development; and two members
of the faculty of the Institute. Prof. Abhijit Sen is the Chairperson of the Governing
Board. He has a Ph.D. in Economics from the University of Cambridge. He is presently, Member, Planning Commission, Government of India. He earlier held teaching posts at the Universities of Sussex, Oxford and Cambridge and is currently on the Senate/Executive Committees of University of Delhi, IIT (Delhi) and National Centre for Agricultural Policy, The following is the composition of the Board:

Member Secretary
The Committee of Direction is constituted by the Governing Board to facilitate the governance of the Institute. The Committee consists of nine members of the Board including Chairman, Vice-Chairman, Member-Secretary and at least one faculty member.
The Academic Committee of the Institute consists of the Director, all the Professors and Associate Professors of the Institute. The Director of the Institute is the Chairman of the Academic Committee. The Committee co-opts outside experts for consultation and advice as and when needed.
The Research Advisory Committee headed by the Director with Secretary, Planning, Government of Rajasthan, a few members of the Governing Board, and Professors of the Institute as members.
